Lush Review: Bubblegum Lip Scrub

Lush Bubblegum Lip ScrubI am lucky that I don't get extremely chapped lips but they do need an exfoliation every now and then to remove the dead skin cells. I hadn't tried a lip scrub before so thought I would give the one in Lush a go. Their scrubs come in three flavours; Bubblegum, Mint Julips and Popcorn. I knew instantly which one I was going to choose!

The ingredients are caster sugar and oils which does make it seem a little pricey at £5.25 for a 25g pot. However I would say that it is worth it as the scrub just seems to be never ending! All you have to do is get a small amount on your finger and rub into your lips. Then you can choose to lick the sugary bubblegum goodness off - yum yum - or wipe off with a tissue...but where's the fun in that?!

Being a pot filled with sugar granules it can become a little messy on application especially if you've picked up a lot of product on your finger...unless you are going for the "I've just eaten a doughnut without licking my lips" look! It's a product that I wouldn't use whilst out and about because of this. For me, I enjoy using the scrub as part of my evening routine. Once scrubbed, I apply some lip balm to keep my lips feeling soft and smooth.

I like that you get a little picture of which employee made your product and I'd like to thank Robert as he did a great job making the scrub I bought!

PREEN for Elizabeth Arden at Debenhams

Debenhams recently had their Summer Spectacular - up to 25% off across the store - and thought it was the perfect chance for to spend my giftcards and get some bargains. After nosing around shoes, clothes, handbags and home, I was no closer to making a purchase and was getting that frustrated shopper feeling. I was desperate to buy I headed to beauty and fragrance...

Compared to other Debenhams stores, the one near me doesn't have the largest product range -  I could've easily used my giftcards on some MAC, Urban Decay or Illamasqua. I don't usually spend much time looking at the Elizabeth Arden product range but the mention of a free gift with a purchase is a sure way to get me interested!

Until 1st June 2013, if you buy two Elizabeth Arden products, one being skincare, you can receive a PREEN beauty bag and five sample products from a choice of ten worth £88.

I purchased the Eight Hour Cream Fragrance Free Skin Protectant as I had previously used a sample which I loved. A great multi-use product! I also purchased the Visible Difference Hydration Boost Night Mask as I had been looking for a new mask to try. It has a creamy, clay-like texture and leaves skin feeling plump and hydrated.

The five products I chose for my beauty bag were the:
50ml Visible Difference Skin Balancing Exfoliating Cleanser for combination skin
30ml Visible Difference Skin Balancing Lotion SPF 15 for combination skin
15ml Visible Difference Optimizing Skin Serum
30ml Eight Hour Cream Intensive Moisturising Hand Treatment
3.5g Ceramide Ultra Lipstick in Melon

Although I can't remember the exact products, there were also four samples from the PREVAGE® and Ceramide product range and a mini eyeshadow palette with brown tones to choose from.

Visit your local store to choose your five samples with your purchase. Alternatively buy your two products on and receive the beauty bag containing one product from the PREVAGE®, Ceramide, Visible Difference and Eight Hour Cream range along with the mini eyeshadows.

Bare Minerals Get Started Complexion Kit

I had seen and heard great things about the bareMinerals products so was looking forward to trying out my newly purchased bareMinerals Get Started Complexion Kit.

These kits come in four shades: Light, Medium, Tan and Dark. Based on my skin colour, I opted for Light for "light-to-medium skin with golden undertones".

bareMinerals Get Started Complexion Kit

As well as all the above, you get a DVD which shows you a step-by-step guide on how to apply the products which I did find useful and definitely picked up some tips.

The brushes that come with this kit are designed for mineral application and pick up the product well with little waste. I like that you are given the option of two brushes depending on the coverage you need; the Flawless Application Face Brush for light-to-medium coverage or Full Flawless Face Brush for medium-to-full coverage. These are not the softest of brushes and I have already had issues of finding the bristles stuck to my face. It seems that this is a general issue from other reviews and I think this is poor seeing as the Full Flawless Face Brush is £24.00 alone. However the brushes do provide good coverage of the product and, although I will look for alternative brushes, they do the job for now. However the Maximum Coverage Concealer Brush has compact bristles to provide good coverage and is a good sized concealer brush. It is yet to shed any bristles so I think we will get along just fine!

bareMinerals Foundations and Powders
The Prime Time Foundation Primer has a lovely, silky texture that glides on to the skin. A small amount goes a long way. It provides a great base, keeping the foundation in place and looking just as good throughout the day.

The technique on using these minerals is to put a small amount of product in the lid, swirl with your chosen brush, tap of any excess and buff into your skin. I have only tried the Original SPF 15 Foundation in Fairly Light so far and it matches nicely with my skin tone. I tend to buff all over first and then layer up where I feel needs a little extra coverage.

When I saw the Warmth All-Over Face Colour in the pot, I was quite scared! The colour freaked me out. You really need just a small amount of this product in the lid and buff into your face where the sun would naturally catch on your skin. It looks a lot more natural than the colour in the pot and gives a nice, sun-kissed glow.

The Original Mineral Veil Finishing Powder is a very fine translucent powder that can be buffed over to help set your look. I love how light this product feels on your skin - you don't feel like you have anything on.

Glossybox May 2013

Glossybox are celebrating their 2nd birthday this month! I've only been a subscriber for a short while but have really loved the boxes I've had so far.

Jelly Pong Pong Fairy Lashes Mascara - full size £15
Beautiful Movements Cosmetics Prime & Create Mixing Medium - full size £20 for 20g
Stone Beauty Body Lotion in Lemon-Bergamot - full size £10 for 200ml
La Roche-Posay Anthelios XL SPF 50+ Dry Touch Gel-Cream - full size £16.50 for 50ml
Headline Colours Poolside Party nail polish in Twisted Silk - full size £9 for 10ml

The product I am most intrigued by is the Prime & Create Mixing Medium. It can be used alone as a matte base but can also be mixed with foundation for an airbrush effect, with powdered blushers and bronzers for a cream tint or eye shadows for a liquid eyeliner. It is quite a small sample at 2.5g but I am hoping it will be one that will allow me to get a good idea of all its possibilities.

I am very much a lemon lover so was pleased to receive this body lotion fragrance. Stone Beauty products are hand made with natural ingredients and no animal testing which get a thumbs up from me! All in all, a light lotion that applies well and feels nice on your skin.

I wasn't too keen on the nail polish colour I received in my box - dusky pink isn't my thing - and other subscribers seem to have had had some gorgeous colours! However it dries quickly which I always find a bonus with nail polish as I can get very impatient with it. I think if I had received another colour I would be raving about this a bit more.

I am sure once we get a bit more sunshine the La Roche-Posay sun protection will come in handy. Never rocked an SPF 50+ before but I am sure it would be quite a good idea for me to use on the places I tend to burn as I am not the most naturally tanned individual.

After seeing what other people have received in their boxes - such as Caudalie and Paul Mitchell - I must admit I am a little disappointed in mine but I am still pleased with receiving three full size products and a freebie pack of mini nail files.

Lush Review: Sex Bomb Bath Ballistic

I am someone who is always partial to a bit of Lush and this bath bomb has to be one of my favourites. describe it as a mixture of clary sage, jasmine and ylang ylang, blended into a classic musk base and then packed full of soya milk.

It really does produce a musky, floral scent that's not too overpowering. I love the fact that after your bath the scent lasts on your skin for several days.

So you've run a nice, warm bath...time for the fun. Let's get fizzical! (See what I did there!)

As you can see, it turns the water a lovely pink and you even get a little rice paper rose floating around. I think this is a really nice idea but I find that the way it dissolves varies from one Sex Bomb to another. I have had one before that it split into separate petals whilst others just become a bit of a slimy blob.

All in all I love this bath bomb and I think most other Lush lovers do too. If you haven't tried it already I would highly recommend.

For £3.20 it is one of their higher priced ballistics but it is quite large. I'm sure you could split it up if you wanted to get a bit more use for your money. For me I like it is a treat and enjoying chucking the whole thing in!
